Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) Jazz Examination

At StepUp, our Jazz Curriculum is taught in accordance to the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) requirements, which is an established dance organisation that is very popular in the Asia Pacific region. Founded in 1933, the CSTD Curriculum focuses on the 4 'E's' of Expression, Education, Encouragement and Enjoyment. A challenging Jazz syllabus awaits every student in every grade from a pre-schooler to a young adult, working towards a Teaching Certificate and Diploma. Are Dance Competitions Suitable For My Child?

Dance Competitions are the final frontier of learning for most students in that it represents the advanced preparation and training that goes beyond the regular class requirements for Showcases, Dance Examinations and Performances. As the name implies, the expectations in the arena of Dance Competitions are realistic and at times, brutal. It is not uncommon to see young dancers shedding a tear or two after the Award Presentation as there are only that few coveted places in every age category. However, as the saying goes "the journey is more important than the destination", there is still much to gain in terms of lifelong values from participation in Dance Competitions.
