At StepUp, our Jazz Curriculum is taught in accordance to the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) requirements, which is an establish dance organisation that is very popular in the Asia Pacific region. Founded in 1933, the CSTD Curriculum focuses on the 4 'Es' which are Expression, Education, Encouragement and Enjoyment. 

A challenging Jazz syllabus awaits every student in every grade from a pre-schooler to a young adult, working towards a Teaching Certificate and Diploma. Read on to find out more about the CSTD Jazz Exam, the motivation for participating in this Exam and how we support our students in their preparation for this Exam!

All students are strongly encouraged to participate in the annual CSTD Jazz Exam. Some of the key benefits are as follows:
 




 
In the Exam, every student will be awarded with an individual grading which starts from Pass, Pass Plus, Commended, Highly Commended, Honours and the highest distinction which is Honours Plus. Thus, for our parents who are serious in developing your child’s interest in Jazz, participation in the Exam is a must to grow their passion and continued advancement to the next higher level.

Last but not least, our Exam are conducted without bias or prejudice to any of our students. Unlike some schools which may 'audition' or 'pre-assess students' before allowing them to register, our Exam is opened to all students who are interested. While there may be a small handful who may require additional training in order to meet the minimum standards required, such extra coaching (beyond the additional coaching class from October/November to March above) are few and far between. On our part, we wish to assure all parents that your child will be in good hands for the conduct of the Exams. Please refer to the information below for more details:
